Dijon optimizes its hospital transport thanks to Optiale

[custom-html]Automated Regulation to Absorb Increased Activity In 2010, the Dijon University Hospital handled 500 internal transports per day. Fifteen years later, this figure has reached 1,250. A 150% increase… with limited hiring. This remarkable feat was made possible thanks to transport flow optimization software, progressively installed throughout the hospital. Equipped with a mathematical optimization engine, the system analyzes requests from departments and the capacity of stretcher-bearer teams in real time to automatically generate mission orders. “Today, 84% of transports are regulated automatically, which was unthinkable before,” emphasizes Olivier Pinguet, the head of patient transport. This increased automation is accompanied by a genuine improvement in service quality. By processing clinical priorities, emergencies, and the location of patients and resources, the software allows for smoother management, preventing delays and duplicate transport. “Previously, we often struggled to manage unforeseen events, but with Optiale, the system reacts in real time to readjust assignments.” Fewer kilometers, greater efficiency. One of the most visible effects of the project is the streamlining of travel. Despite the overall increase in volume, the kilometers traveled each day by stretcher bearers have decreased. “We have managed to pool routes, avoid unnecessary back-and-forth trips, and better distribute intervention areas among teams,” explains the supervisor. “Stretcher bearers now spend 65% of their time transporting patients, compared to 42% before the implementation of Optiale,” adds Floriane Martin, Head of Innovation and Development at Géosoft. The software automatically suggests optimized routes, grouping several transports on the same itinerary whenever possible. A win-win solution: staff benefit from improved working conditions, patients wait less, and the facility increases its efficiency while reducing its carbon footprint. Epona: Optimizing External Transport with CRTE. The Epona platform, deployed at Dijon Hospital, relies on the CRTE (External Transport Regulation Center) solution developed by Géosoft to efficiently manage external patient transport. When a nurse requests transport, the system detects whether it is an external transport. The CRTE platform then takes over to select the appropriate carrier from a network of approved ambulance companies. Selection criteria include geographical availability, the type of vehicle required (ambulance, patient transport vehicle, adapted transport for people with reduced mobility), adherence to deadlines, and the carriers’ response history to ensure fairness. Once a company is chosen, CRTE contacts them, either electronically or by phone. If the company declines, the system searches for another until the transport is arranged. “68% of requests are handled in less than ten minutes,” explains Joël Crézé, CEO of Géosoft. With daily management of over 300 transports, Epona ensures optimal fluidity and responsiveness. Building on the success of this solution, the Dijon University Hospital is now considering extending the use of Géosoft technology across the entire hospital group.
