QUINTEN / PHARMIA: A new chapter, new challenges

Specializing in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in healthcare for 14 years, QUINTEN offers solutions to support medical decision-making through data analysis. A €14 million fundraising round propels it toward a new milestone and new challenges.

The Power of Real-World Data

QUINTEN was previously featured in our pages during the development of PharmIA, a decision-support solution for hospital pharmacists aimed at prioritizing prescriptions and supporting prescription analysis with the detection of iatrogenic risks. With €14 million in funding from Techlife Capital – specializing in healthcare and technology – and MACSF – the leading insurer for healthcare professionals – PharmIA will further optimize its expertise in health data processing and algorithm development by “offering a new version of its solution and the development by Quinten Health of a digital platform dedicated to disease models,” explains Guillaume Bourdon, Co-founder of Quinten and CEO in charge of Human Resources, Marketing, and Communication.

With its expertise in health data valorization, Quinten Health shifted its focus five years ago to real-world data processing (RWD) “to demonstrate the efficacy of the drug being studied under real-life conditions on large patient populations and to identify side effects. This data constitutes a valuable source of information. It represents significant volumes.”

Patient adherence, analysis according to their profiles, short- and medium-term side effects… It is now possible to better understand and calibrate the therapeutic strategy and to have “a better understanding of the natural progression of the disease. By modeling populations upstream of the study, we secure the product’s development by introducing it during the optimal phase of efficacy, according to the disease’s progression.”

PharmIA New Version

PharmIA is a true support tool for the evolving role of the pharmacist. It enables the monitoring of medical prescriptions and the real-time detection of situations with a high risk of adverse effects. It relies on the patient’s medical context (biological and clinical data, medical history, etc.) and on drug knowledge bases related to their proper use (approved drug databases and/or expert opinions). “Obtaining CE marking in June 2021 allowed for the rapid deployment of this solution, but it was frozen for two years. The expiration of this period allows us to optimize the tool.”

Thus, its new version aims in particular to strengthen partnerships with EHR vendors, develop an ecosystem that supports clinical pharmacy, and advance knowledge through PharmLABS. It supports the overall strategy of accelerating the platform’s rollout in Europe (with Belgium, Germany, and the UK as priority countries in 2022) and then in North America:

• To become a microservice integrated into the EHR and adapt to the clinical pharmacy organizations of different countries, simplifying its integration into hospital information systems and improving the pharmacist’s experience through the use of a single interface.

• By leveraging the various drug databases of European countries and optimizing analytical intelligence, PharmIA will utilize new knowledge bases, notably those developed by the PharmLABS endowment fund and those resulting from an exclusive partnership with GPR.

As explained by Cyril Breuker, the collaborative platform PharmLabs, created in the spring of 2019 following the PharmIA project, provides a tool for sharing best practices in medication use.

PharmLabs is a complementary tool to existing databases in:

• Capitalizing knowledge
• Enhancing and harmonizing practices within a hospital, as well as within federated structures (GHT, etc.)
• Generating new knowledge** or disseminating best practices at the national or academic level

While PharmIA initiated this project and is funding its launch, the governance and development of PharmLabs remain independent so that, ultimately, existing databases can be accredited at the European level, for the common good.

PharmIA: A DNA for Partnerships with University Hospitals

Following this same approach of jointly leveraging expertise, PharmIA continues to offer partnerships with expert centers and leading French university hospitals to strengthen clinical pharmacy, including:

• An Oncology module developed with the European reference hospital, an EHR software vendor, a routine care EHR, a specialized EHR, and the pharmacy team
• Dashboards for organizational effectiveness and rapid studies on appropriate medication use, among other things…
