A turnkey filming and debriefing kit

In 2011, Nicolas D’Espinay launched his outsourced IT services business. His mission: to support rapidly growing organizations in managing their new challenges, often involving new organizational processes. Very quickly, other skills were added: support functions, networking, website management… “That’s when I met training managers who explained the difficulties they were having deploying their systems,” recalls the founder of Toolin and president of the Lena group. “Often, the solutions are very cumbersome to implement.” We had the capacity to address this issue. So we designed a system that would allow us to quickly meet this need, with easy-to-use equipment, in an optimized security environment, all while adhering to best IT practices.” The Colibri system was born. This kit provides video transmission equipment for on-site training. In the hospital setting, it is very difficult to mobilize rooms (such as operating theaters, intensive care units, etc.) and staff. Training must therefore be quick, easy to deploy, and reliable. Because despite the constraints, nothing replaces hands-on practice. This is certainly the opinion of Jessica Pessayre, a hospital-based anesthesiologist at Tenon Hospital (AP-HP). “Training in the usual workplace, with your everyday colleagues and the hospital’s equipment, is essential. It’s much more enriching for improving practices.” This allows us, during debriefings, to find solutions that best align with the recommendations, while remaining consistent with our work environment.” For over a year, the facility has been equipped with a video and audio solution. The package includes three cameras, a computer, a microphone, and a video projector for the debriefing room. With one session per month, the training focuses on managing complications related to anesthesia. It is being progressively rolled out across all interventional areas (recovery room, operating room, intensive care unit, maternity ward, etc.) and with all stakeholders (surgeons, nurses, radiologists, gynecologists, etc.). “We can even hold the sessions in patient rooms. Professionals can then retrieve medications from their usual cabinets.”

Optimal Design

To ensure ease of use, everything has been carefully considered to best support healthcare professionals. A color-coded system makes it easy to identify cable connections. Reliability was another key consideration. “We designed the kit with as few cables as possible, but enough to ensure stable transmissions,” emphasizes Nicolas d’Espinay. “The hospital is a very noisy environment: closed operating rooms, limited radio waves… So, wired connections were essential. Furthermore, we set up a support center to guarantee continuous troubleshooting.” The equipment is connected to this support center, which uses monitoring tools to diagnose transmission issues in real time. From cabling to Wi-Fi connections, the team can remotely address various aspects to prevent any problems. “The creators of this kit understood that we are neither engineers nor IT specialists,” notes Jessica Pessayre. “Everything is clearly laid out; it’s very user-friendly. The existence of the support center is reassuring for us, even though we haven’t needed to use it yet!”

And the system is modular. The hospital is planning numerous upgrades. “We wanted to remain open,” explains Nicolas D’Espinay. “Additional components can be easily added.” Mannequins, drones, and various other tools can be interfaced, allowing trainers to unleash their creativity.
