A 360° content management platform for healthcare

The digitization of healthcare data is a significant challenge for many hospitals. With the right solution, however, this change can be an opportunity for healthcare professionals to improve communication and enhance patient care.

A comprehensive solution connected to all data sources

When digital technology first arrived in the healthcare sector, most institutions opted for a siloed approach to digitization, primarily due to security concerns. Today, both healthcare professionals and IT specialists agree that digital data is more valuable when shared, with a strict security guarantee. Ruggero Pizzo, Director of the Digital Solutions Business Unit at Konica Minolta, a major player in the digital transformation of organizations, sees 360° IT solutions as real assets for hospitals: “This allows us to bring together the administrative data of the institution, patients, and their medical data. Today, we offer a solution called OnBase Hyland that manages administrative and back-office processes, such as purchase invoices, employment contracts, and admission documents, as well as medical documents, such as lab reports and MRI scans. It’s a kind of software overlay that connects with all information sources to aggregate them, which makes the work of healthcare professionals and hospital staff easier.” »

Different Expertise to Address All Challenges

Implementing a comprehensive solution requires the involvement of experts in several fields, such as archivists, document management specialists, and IT specialists. “A hospital asked us to digitize thousands of medical records. Thanks to our partnerships with various expert companies, we were able to offer the most suitable solution,” explains Jean-François Théard, Head of ITS Business Unit at Konica Minolta. “We integrate the digitization tool, but also the expertise to implement an in-house document management center. By adding an HR module, we facilitate the implementation of an electronic signature solution. The management of archiving documents intended for evidentiary purposes is also taken into account.” By taking a holistic approach to the issue and coordinating all the necessary skills, the institution benefits from having a single point of contact. While seemingly effective, implementing this type of comprehensive, fully integrated, and interoperable system raises the question of data security. Here too, Konica Minolta has chosen to rely on an expert, with the recent acquisition of PARTITIO, a French company that has been supporting organizations in the digitalization of business processes and the managed services of IT infrastructures in private clouds for 20 years.

Scalable IT Solutions

Konica Minolta participated in the working groups launched as part of the Ségur initiative, alongside other experts, with the aim of developing the proposed solutions to continue improving the patient journey while facilitating the work of healthcare professionals. The results of this research are already evident in the field, as seen in Konica Minolta’s latest projects: “To meet the needs of a multi-site hospital group with 170 facilities, we created a patient portal that integrates with the various hospital technologies. We are currently developing a facility management application that provides a complete map of rooms and care units, showing the location of each piece of equipment,” explains Ruggero Pizzo. It is important to adapt to the needs of healthcare facilities, as well as to evolving regulations and ethical standards. Konica Minolta is also conducting in-depth research on data governance, with the ultimate goal of ensuring “information is available, regardless of its source, at the right time, to the right person, and in a completely secure manner,” concludes Jean-François Théard.
