Exposure to ionizing radiation is an integral part of many medical practices, whether diagnostic or therapeutic. Essential for patient care, this radiation nevertheless constitutes an occupational hazard that must be managed with the utmost rigor. At the François Baclesse Center in Caen, radiation protection is therefore a central pillar of the organization, with a clear objective: to guarantee the safety of exposed personnel while ensuring strict compliance with current regulatory requirements. This approach relies in particular on the use of high-performance calculation and assessment tools. In this regard, the solutions developed by Dosimex, a company headed by Alain Vivier, play a key role. Alain Vivier is also co-author, with Gérald Lopez (AREVA NC), of the reference work Calculations de dos Générées par les rayonnements ionisants (Calculations of Doses Generated by Ionizing Radiation), which includes widely used calculation codes in the field of radiation protection, including the Dosimex package. Among these tools, Dosimex-G stands out with functionalities equivalent to, or even superior to, those of reference software such as MicroShield. In particular, it enables advanced calculations for X-ray generators and the rigorous application of the NF C 15-160 standard (2018 edition). The software integrates numerous options, such as consideration of scattering within a screen or bremsstrahlung radiation, thus offering a detailed and realistic modeling of exposure situations. Beyond these applications, the Dosimex suite also includes codes dedicated to calculating doses related to beta and neutron radiation, internal exposure, and patient dose assessment in nuclear medicine. All of these tools contribute to strengthening risk prevention, optimizing professional practices, and permanently integrating radiation protection into the heart of quality and safety at work.
